Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly
handling the word of truth. -2 Timothy 2:15
While Christian liberty is gracefully extended in the various ways one lives
to honor Christ with their life, this section contains the core, biblical truths
believed and taught by the leadership of Plymouth Community Church.
THE TRIUNE GOD
We teach there is one God, Creator of all things, and eternally existing in
three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
JESUS CHRIST
We teach Jesus Christ is God incarnate who was sent by the Father to accomplish
the work of redemption through His sinless life, atoning sacrifice,
victorious resurrection, ascension to the Father, and sending of the Spirit.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We teach the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, the divine Teacher
whose indwelling work in believers includes convicting, revealing,
transforming, empowering, and dispensing spiritual gifts.
THE WORD OF GOD
We teach the Bible is without error in the original writings, presents the
complete revelation of God’s will for salvation, and should
direct the thoughts and actions of believers.
THE HUMAN CONDITION
We teach human beings are created in the image of God, but the penalty of
death is passed on all through the sin of Adam. Being powerless to restore
themselves, Jesus Christ was sent in love to rescue and redeem humanity.
SALVATION
We teach the shed blood of Jesus Christ was the all-sufficient, atoning sacrifice
that satisfied the justice of sin. God’s gift of salvation is offered to any whose
faith rests in the Person and work of Jesus and is sealed by the Holy Spirit.
THE GOSPEL
We teach the Good News of God is that the eternal Son was sent by the
Father; conceived by Mary; lived a sinless life; was crucified, buried, resurrected,
ascended, and sent the Spirit; and will return to rule all things one day.
THE CHURCH
We teach Jesus Christ is the Head of all who have been justified by God’s
grace through faith alone in Christ alone and who follow Christ’s example
in loving one another, serving others, and making disciples.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD
We teach the kingdom of God as “God’s people in God’s place under God’s
rule.” The already-but-not-yet kingdom of God is both a present experience
and will be ushered in its fullness at the second coming of Jesus.
THE RETURN OF CHRIST
We teach the personal, bodily, and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ
will happen at a time known only to God, so believers should remain
expectant for His return and committed to a life of kingdom work.
THE ETERNAL STATE
We teach believers shall be physically raised in glorified bodies fit for eternal life and
unbelievers shall be raised to judgment in the lake of fire and eternal separation from God.
MARRIAGE AND SEXUALITY
We teach marriage is between one biological man and one biological woman
until death, sexual intimacy should only occur within the bounds of marriage,
and gender distinctions assigned by God are good, holy, and honorable.
SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE
We teach all human life is created in God’s image and sacred from
conception to death. The taking of innocent life through abortion, assisted
suicide, euthanasia, or suicide dishonors the value of human life.
SOCIAL ISSUES
We teach that, in the spirit of Christ, Christians should oppose racism
and every form of greed and should work to provide for the orphaned,
widowed, foreigner, needy, abused, sick, and helpless.
